About Supportive Service Inc.

Supportive Services Inc. is a non-profit organization serving the mental health needs of the residents of Beaver County, Pa.
Supportive Services is licensed by the Pa. Dept of Public Welfare and is funded through the Beaver County MH/MR Office.

Supportive Services was developed to meet the needs of the individuals who were being placed in the communities as a result of the de-institutionalization of the state hospital system. It was found that many of these individuals still required limited supervision and support to successfully live in community settings.

Supportive Services started as a Community Residential Rehabilitation provider in 1978. Over the years it has expanded its' services by developing other programs to meet the needs of the population it serves.

In 1989 Supportive Services opened its' Inpatient Diversion Unit and in 1992 Supportive Services opened its' Long Term Structured Residence and developed the Harbor Point Housing program.

Supportive Services strives to place referrals in the most appropriate setting for their needs and level of functioning. Placement at Supportive Services should not be considered to be permanent placements. It is the objective of the agency to help individuals develop their daily living skills so they can live in the community with the least amount of supervision necessary. It is understood that some residents may be with the agency in a variety of programs over a number of years but that is still not considered a permanent placement.
